Helping believers know God more deeply through the lifelong study of His Word.
Every Bible study, course, and resource developed through Our Call To Worship follows a consistent approach to studying God’s Word. Our desire is not to promote a particular system of study, but to encourage careful, humble, and Scripture-centered learning that helps believers know God more deeply and faithfully live according to His Word.
We recognize that faithful Christians have used many different methods of Bible study throughout the history of the Church. The approach presented here reflects the study principles that guide this ministry. It is offered as a tool for study — not as the only faithful way to understand Scripture. Above every method stands the authority of God’s Word.
Our goal is never to replace Scripture with a system, but to use sound study methods that allow Scripture to speak for itself as clearly as possible.
Our Guiding Principles
Scripture Is Our Authority
The Bible is our final authority for faith and practice. Every study, conclusion, and teaching must ultimately be tested by Scripture itself.
Scripture Interprets Scripture
Because the Bible forms one unified revelation of God’s redemptive work, we seek to understand individual passages within the context of the whole of Scripture.
Context Matters
We seek to understand each passage within its historical setting, literary context, intended audience, surrounding verses, and place within God’s unfolding plan of redemption.
Observation Before Interpretation
Before asking what a passage means, we first seek to understand what it actually says. Careful observation provides the foundation for faithful interpretation and faithful application.
Christ Remains Central
From Genesis to Revelation, God’s plan of redemption finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ. While every passage should first be understood within its own context, we also recognize its place within the larger story of God’s redeeming work.
Prayerful Humility
We approach God’s Word prayerfully, recognizing that every believer remains a lifelong student of Scripture. We seek understanding with humility, always willing to be corrected by God’s Word.
Using Study Tools
Historical research, literary analysis, chronological study, original language resources, archaeology, maps, timelines, dictionaries, and commentaries can all serve as valuable tools for understanding Scripture. These resources are intended to assist our study, but they never replace or stand above the authority of God’s Word.
A Lifelong Journey
Studying Scripture is not simply about gaining knowledge. It is about knowing God more deeply, growing in Christlikeness, and faithfully living according to His Word.
Whether you are opening your Bible for the very first time or have spent decades studying Scripture, we invite you to continue growing alongside us as lifelong students of God’s Word.
